Overview Variations
Cleric is one of the twelve classes that can be selected in Elder Tale, and one of the three Recovery classes along with Druid and Kannagi (on the Yamato server).
There is only one variation, the Templar, on the Western Europe server.
Overview[]
As priests who work for the sanctuaries, Clerics have the highest healing skills among the twelve classes. They are capable of equipping plate armor, giving them the highest defense potential out of all the Healer classes.
The Cleric's healing gimmick is known as Reactive Healing: spells are applied to an ally beforehand, and once they take damage, the spell activates and automatically heals them. A skilled Cleric is said to cancel out an average of three to ten attacks with all kinds of recovery and healing skills.
However, similar to the Enchanter class, Clerics lack strong offensive abilities and must join a party to be effective against strong enemies. Most players who choose this class (which specializes in helping others) have mild personalities; Marielle's boisterous enthusiasm is an exception.[1]
Sample Builds[]
There are two main builds for Clerics: Armor Cleric (mixed melee attack and recovery type) and High Healer (healing specialization).[2]
Armor Cleric[]
Equipping plate armor and shields for armor and maces and swords for weapons, this "Combat Priest" is common. At first glance, it may seem dangerous for a Cleric to be fighting on the front lines, but if the members of the vanguard are the ones who require the most healing, this means the Cleric can react faster. Due to the limited range of their spells, Clerics need to be close to their allies to heal them.
Furthermore, by contributing damage, it will take less time to kill a monster and thus reduce the damage taken by the party. In addition, this build is popular among solo players because it has good balance between attack and recovery skills.
Rezarick runs a traditional version of this build. Coppelia runs the Twin Shield build, a subset of the Armor Cleric build that focuses on dual-wielding shields and using shield-based damage skills.
High Healer[]
A build that supports allies with magical attacks and recovery spells from the rear, away from monsters. Some may wear shields and plate armor, but most of players of this build wear robes, which are better at reinforcing the effects of recovery magic. For weapons, they mostly carry canes and the like with support capabilities rather than weapons with high offensive magical power.
Recovery specialists are always in high demand, even among Clerics, so a highly skilled healer is welcome in any guild and they are trusted a lot. The advantage of this over Armor Cleric is that you're not in close range with monsters. Also, the lighter armor for recovery classes greatly boost maximum MP, unlike heavy armor which increases max HP, allowing High Healers to out-perform Armor Clerics in longer battles.
Marielle is a classic version of this build. Tetora runs an unorthodox build that is equipped like a High Healer, but stays in the front like an Armor Cleric.

Average HP and MP Chart[]
The calculations for this table are based on level and the average gear for that level. However, this table does not account for racial and sometimes subclass abilities.[3]
For a more accurate representation of a character's values based on the quality of their equipment, the following multipliers are a good rule of thumb:
- Solo player without good equipment: 96% of their level average
- Average adventurer in an ordinary guild: 100%
- Adventurer in a wealthy and decently-skilled guild: 106%
- Adventurer in a raiding guild: 116%
- Adventurer in a top guild: 125%
