Sleep of the Eternal Moth is the twenty-fourth episode of the Log Horizon 2 anime and is the third episode of the Noosphere arc. It first aired in March 21, 2015.

It corresponds with the fourth chapter of Homesteading the Noosphere, although the episode was adapted based on notes given to the animation team by Mamare Touno; the volume was not yet written at the time production started on the season.

Synopsis[]

People of the Earth are falling asleep on the streets of Akiba and Maihama. Eyewitnesses report that Eternal Moth monsters are responsible. Their shining wings rain down spores on their victims, making them fall comatose by continuously draining their MP.

The Log Horizon junior members are all thinking about whether to go home and about the fate of the People of the Earth and the world of Theldesia. It's a tough decision, but they don't want to leave their friends or the Landers behind.

Later that night, countless Eternal Moth monsters rain down on Akihabara, Maihama, Susukino and Minami, where Kazuhiko observes the city's Guards falling asleep due to the assault. To make matters worse, Adventurers too have begun falling into a state of sleep in this wave of attack. The Round Table in Akiba, Silver Sword in Susukino, and Kazuhiko in Minami all deduce that the moths are attacking from outside their respective cities' zones.

The West Wind Brigade soon discover the moths' nest in a new raid zone called the "Calling Fortress" in the Shibuya broadcast building. Consulting with Li Gan, the Round Table comes to the conclusion that the monsters had been drawn to the broadcasting antenna from the Moon, and thus, to prevent further damages, they must destroy the antenna.

Even though, Shiroe is uncertain about raiding the broadcasting building, he assembles a raid team and makes the difficult choice of destroying the antenna.

The raiding party fights their way through Shibuya and enter the raid zone in the broadcast building. However, Shiroe's incertitude is impeding his strategic insight. As a result, there's a lot of communication between the members, which allows the monsters to overwhelm them from all angles. A third of the raid party is wiped out. Consequently, they're left with no choice but to retreat, with Shiroe using Flip Gate to transport the survivors to a safe zone.

There, Shiroe calls out to everyone, but before he can say anything, Henrietta walks up to him and slaps him across the face.

Minori and the other Log Horizon junior members drive away Shiroe's uncertainty about returning home when they all decide to stay and help the people of Elder Tale.

Outside, Woodstock W is flying above the broadcast building and spots the raid boss, called Taliktan. He informs the raid party about his finding.

With Shiroe's resolve restored, he formulates a new plan to save Theldesia and the antenna both.

Differences from the Light Novel[]

Note: This episode aired before the web novel and light novel versions were released.

  • In the light novel, before the Shibuya Raid Party sorties, Shiroe does not take the time to tell Eins that he trusts that the Honesty guildmaster is a true member of the Round Table--a reference to Eins' being Minami's Agent One, as Jered Gan had referred to him in the Plant Hwyaden council meeting earlier.
  • In the light novel, Sergiad had not fallen victim to the Eternal Moths and has the opportunity to discuss history and business with Calasin.
